Fur Harvesters

About Us

Tennessee Fur Harvesters Association

We, the trappers of Tennessee, prompted by a feeling of profound respect and gratitude toward the fur trappers who have gone before us, whose deeds and exploits will forever embellish the pages of our nations early history, and being grateful for the rich legacy of wildlife bequeathed us by our ancestors, associate ourselves for the following purposes:

To preserve the freedon, privileges and pleasures of the trap line for those who shall succeed us; to uphold the fundamental rights of freedom, liberty, and justice for all; to develop leadership for the advancement of the best interests of trappers and the fur industry as a whole; to inspire in our membership a desire to practice the ethics of true sportsmanship towards others who wish to enjoy the recreation and pleasures of the outdoors. To impart knowledge to our youth concerning the necessity of conservation, to cooperate with duly recognized conservation and game management organizations in the furtherance of the objectives of the trapping fraternity; to cultivate a feeling of good will and mutual understanding through a proper respect of the rights of landowners at all times.  To eliminate unnecessary cruelty in the employment of steel traps, to discourage unjust and fraudulent trade practices in the marketing of raw furs; to aid and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in bringing about the apprehension and just punishment of those who violate the laws of the State of Tennessee as they relate to the interests of trappers and trapping.  To oppose and request revision of any proposed legislation which is discriminitive toward the trapping fraternity;  to oppose any proposed legislation which would impose unreasonable restrictions on the taking of furbearing animals or the sale of pelts thereof; to oppose and request revision of any proposed legislation that would be detrimental to the population of any native wildlife species of the State of Tennessee. To cooperate in gathering information regarding furbearing animals so that seasons can be established consistent with the bioligical ability of the animals to withstand pressure or animal damage problem, and to propose legislation that will make it easier for the Tennessee trapper to bring this about; and to perpetuate the friendships and associations of the outdoors, this by the Grace of Almighty God.
